WEEK 2

WEEK 2 : 17 JANUARY 2024: NEW YORK CITY Wow, what a fantastic day! We arrived in port, and it was freezing outside, snow was lying all over the place, the passenger’s cars that were parked in the parking lot next to the cruise terminal were covered in snow and had to be cleared with their special tools before they could drive anywhere. You could hear them breaking and removing the snow from deck 15 on the ship. On my way to breakfast I realized that I would have to put on all my warm clothes, jackets gloves and cover up my ears. Thank goodness I packed in my duck feather K -way jacket, and it has a hoody. I walked to 74 th street all along 12 th avenue and my goodness it was cold, I had to walk very slowly for the street was slippery and here and there I nearly did fall. My leather gloves I left at home, was very sorry about that, for the others I brought along did not keep the cold out, so I had to keep my hands in my pockets to keep them warm. Ek was so in vervoering ...

WEEK 11

04 OCTOBER 2024: QUEBEC CITY So, the last week of this contract had arrived (I laugh at the crew when they ask me when I leave for home, hubby says my sign off date is 11 October) we will be sailing from Quebec City in Canada to New York City.   Today has been another perfect sunny day in the city, it was overcast this morning, so I had my doubts, but the sun did come out after 12. I had to get off early and sit and wait for hubby who could only get off a lot later, so used the time to catch up with some free Wi-Fi in the terminal building. Our first stop was at the chocolate shop where I had the delicious hot chocolate yesterday so wanted hubby to taste it, while I went to get us a cup, I left him sitting on a bench in the old town area, watching the tourists go by. We decided that we were going to try some Asian food and that was the best decision for the food was excellent, so tasty, we really enjoyed it. He had some seafood noodles soup, and I tried some marinate...

WEEK 10

25/09/23 NEW YORK I was up very early this morning and eventually got up so that I did not bother hubby for he needs his sleep. Getting older seems to go hand in hand with sleeplessness! So off I went to deck 17 and just after I started walking it started raining so I made my way to deck 16 for coffee while I watched this last week’s cruise video on the big screen. Enjoyed seeing the medical team on the big screen doing the wave and all the videos of the week’s different music evenings like 60,70, the glow party and so on. Had a little giggle for the cruise director was all dressed up in his Elvis type of costume with a wig, John Lennon glasses the hole catoot, and just thought to myself it is a good thing this type of dress is not part of hubby,s job description!! but the guests had a great time. I had time to video us passing under the bridge on the Hudson River and just when I wanted to go up to video the Statue of Liberty I realized that I had lost my name tag so in the...

WEEK 9

21/09/23 NEW YORK Sailed into New York early morning before sunrise and had another beautiful day in the Big Apple. Our embarkation started in Canada so we all had to go through immigration on arrival and took a while before we could get out of the port area. We did our normal stops and then I walked to the public library in 5th Avenue, have been to it before but it is just so impressive and beautiful, I love it. Took a few videos to give you the feel of the place and landed up in the giftshop where I bought us a map of the world to put up at home and think could be nice to put markers in all the places we have been to on our travels. These 11 years have been good to us and have been to so many places in the world ,hubby has been to a lot more that I have but what a privilege even laughed at all the funny things that have happened on the travels and flights while talking about it the other afternoon and am so thankful got to go to Russia and see the Hermitage Museum and its...

WEEK 8

12/09/23 Quebec City Canada Was a nice surprise to see we were not going to be docking far from town but right in the downtown area. Is just so much nicer and closer to everything. I got off late morning put my nose out of the terminal building and decided I would not be walking anywhere today for was raining and a hectic wind was blowing. So landed up in the Wi-Fi area and there I sat for a long time cruising the web and was so nice to just be able to use the internet without having a clock ticking next to you. Will be appreciating our Wi-Fi at home that is for sure. Last night after work hubby asked his colleague to stand in for him so that he could just get off and get some fresh air for a while, has been busy and a new doctor is arriving today. The wind had dropped and was nice to get off and enjoy Quebec City at night. The hotel Chateau Frontenac looks beautiful at night and watches over the city and ocean from the top of the cliff. Early morning, hubby was called out ...

WEEK 7

05/09/23 NEW YORK BEGINNING OF OUR ITINERARY TO QUEBEC CITY CANADA We were docked early this morning; never thought I would be so glad to see New York after our tropical storm encounter! Did not even cross my mind that we could get stuck in Bermuda, after all our visits, this was a first. Just as well hubby stayed behind to meet the boss for, he was called to go and meet him and accompany him aboard. They said it was 33 degrees today but did feel a lot warmer. When I got into the terminal building and saw that only one escalator was working that explained the long rows and slow pace of the disembarkation process today. My first stop was at my favorite cookie shop Levains Bakery 30 min of brisk walking from the ship terminal, they are open from 8 to 8 and this morning I had the shop to myself and even got 1 cookie for free! Decided to try and go on my horse cart ride for the weather was good, the first guys wanted to charge me way too much and after deciding against it I tri...
