WEEK 5

20/08/23 NEW YORK CITY We docked early this morning, think it has to do with the tides so that we can sail under the bridge when coming into New York, normally we get here at 7 in the morning, when I got up at 3 we were in port and docked. Could also have something to do with the pilots and other ships, who knows? I sat outside the terminal building watching the people go by and o my genade is besig en almal haastig, eventually hubby appeared and off we went. Amazing how quickly you learn where to go and were to walk to get away from all the crowds, bikers and runners. We first stopped near a park just to catch our breath before we went to Starbucks. I had my usual espresso, flip maar is duur $3.50 vir n single shot en is net n ou blertsie maar vrek lekker and hubby had his breakfast wrap and a cafĂ© latte. I am feeling a bit tired and not firing on all cylinders so decided to take things slowly, ended up at Miss Lillies and was disappointed when I got there, I could only ge...

WEEK 4

13/08/23 NEW YORK We got up early to get to the gym and hubby had a crew member that had to be picked up when we docked but what a nice surprise while walking on deck 17 seeing New York from the water, was magical. I got off early and went on my walkabout, the first street I took was not very pleasant for the homeless had left their belongings all over the place and for the first time since we have been traveling, I passed a used syringe lying on the streets I assume it was used for drugs and must say was upsetting. Thought to myself nee hier moet ek wegkom, but did not feel unsafe only belongings lying around and no people in site. There was some or other big event on the go in Manhattan for the police were busy closing off streets. I wanted to go to a shoe shop but was told they only open at 11 so that gave me an hour to kill so ended up at Starbucks and had enough time to post all my photos which was great. There was no sitting area, so I just had to stand but the aircon ...

WEEK 3

6/08/23 NEW YORK Hubby had a peaceful night, and the patient was in a stable condition when he was picked up by the ambulance just after arrival in port, very thankful and grateful for that. Here I go through all the stress and worries with my hubby and am his praying partner when things are tough, and he says all we can do now is pray, so that is part of our life here on the cruise ships. The other night when I was passing the medical department, I thought to myself amazing how all seems peaceful and normal to all the passengers meanwhile a drama could be playing off behind the scenes and very stressful for all the crew involved. Just as well you don’t know about all the drama behind the scenes for what you don’t know, you don’t worry about! We got off the ship at about 9.30 this morning and another beautiful day but was hot about 30 degrees. Our first stop was at Starbucks to get something to eat and drink and then downloading things that needed to be done. Then walked to t...

WEEK 2

29/07/2023 NEW YORK Sailed into New York before the sun was up and docked at about 7am two weeks ago it was pouring with rain, so we have been lucky for last week we had perfect weather and today was another beautiful day. I went to have breakfast while hubby was still sleeping, he is off today so he could take things slowly. He was on duty during the night and was held up with bed bugs! can you believe it, people come with them and even headlice, what a horrible thought! Thank goodness for the termination squad! When an announcement was made that the getting off the ship was a bit congested, I decided to make an early get away and rather sit outside the terminal and wait for hubby. Was so impressed with the customs when they used the facial recognition machines so that only took a few seconds and off I went no more scratching for your passport and finger printing. Watching the people kept me busy until hubby joined me later, we then went straight to the Apple store in 5 th ...
